Tree on the house. Oak across the driveway. Pine hanging over the neighbor's fence after last night's storm. Call now โ a real person answers, and a crew is dispatched by urgency, not by queue.
First Things First
1. Stay out of the damaged rooms. A tree that's resting on a roof is often still moving โ trusses can shift hours later.
2. If any power line is involved, call 911 and Duke Energy first. Never approach a line, even one that looks dead. We work storm damage constantly and we will not touch a tree in contact with a primary line until the utility clears it โ no reputable crew will.
3. Photograph everything before cleanup. Wide shots and close-ups. Your adjuster will want the scene as-is; we add our own documentation to yours.
4. Call us. We stabilize first โ removing weight off the structure, tarping the breach โ then complete the removal and haul-off.
Insurance
When a tree hits an insured structure โ house, garage, shed, fence โ homeowner's insurance typically covers removal from the structure and repairs, minus your deductible. We provide itemized invoices and photo documentation in the format adjusters expect, and we can bill in the sequence your carrier requires (emergency mitigation vs. full removal).
One honest note: a tree that falls in the yard without hitting anything is often not covered, or covered only to a small limit. Your policy and adjuster have the final word โ we'll give you the documentation either way, but we won't promise your carrier's money for them.
Life-safety and tree-on-structure calls come first, usually same-day. After a big county-wide storm we triage: structure strikes, then blocked driveways, then yard cleanup. You'll get a straight ETA when you call, not a "sometime this week."
In North Carolina it's generally the policy of the property that got hit that responds โ your insurance, even though it was their tree โ unless the tree was documented as dead/hazardous and they'd been notified. Your adjuster sorts liability; our job is safe removal and clean documentation for whoever pays.
A hung-up tree or a big cracked limb over anything you care about is a "today" call, not a "someday" call. Widow-makers come down without warning โ that's the nickname's whole origin. Call and we'll tell you honestly how urgent it is.
